A golden carousel that turns on candlelight alone — now with its own tray

Place a candle on the golden tray, light it, and wait a moment. As the flame settles, the rising warm air catches the fan blades and the carousel begins to turn: four golden rocking horses drift in a slow, glowing circle above the candle, casting soft moving shadows across the table.

No batteries, no electricity, no mechanism to wind. Just a flame, a finely balanced rotor and the quiet physics of warm air.

Why we like this version

Unlike our original carousel, which sits over a candle glass, this model stands on its own oval tray. The support rod rises from the side of the tray, leaving the centre free for a candle — so it works on any table or sideboard. Use a tealight or one of our 20 cl or 30 cl candle glasses: the carousel turns above either. The tray also catches any drips, and the whole piece looks finished even when the candle isn't lit.

Before you light up — a few notes

• The rotor and ornaments get hot during use. Never touch them while the candle is burning.
• Rotation speed depends on room temperature and air movement. A draught, open window or air conditioning can slow or stop the spin.
• Keep out of reach of children — small parts and hot surfaces.
• Never leave a burning candle unattended.

How to assemble your carousel

Five pieces, no tools, under a minute.

1. Base. Place the tray on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface.
2. Support rod. Insert the end of the rod into the socket on the side of the tray. The angled arm should bring the pointed tip over the centre of the tray.
3. Rotor. Rest the fan blade on the pointed tip of the rod so it balances freely. It should turn with the lightest touch.
4. Hooks. Slip the four hooks into the holes on the rotor, spacing them evenly.
5. Ornaments. Hang one ornament on each hook. Even spacing keeps the carousel balanced and turning smoothly.

Lighting it

Place a tealight or a candle glass (20 cl or 30 cl) in the centre of the tray, directly under the rotor, and light it. Give it a moment — once the flame burns evenly and a steady flow of warm air rises, the blades begin to spin and the horses take flight.

Good to know

• Rotation speed varies with the season and room temperature — this is normal.
• If the rotor doesn't turn, check that it sits freely on the tip of the rod and that the ornaments are evenly spaced. A slight adjustment of the rod angle can also help.
• In a draughty or air-conditioned room, the airflow may slow the spin. Move the carousel to a calmer spot.

Safety first

• Hot surfaces during use — never touch the rotor or ornaments while the candle is lit.
• Keep out of reach of children and pets.
• Never leave a burning candle unattended.
• Allow to cool completely before disassembling or storing.

Care

Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Avoid water and abrasive products, which can dull the gold finish.
